NYFW: A--COMPANY Spring Summer 2022

Designer Sara Lopez of A--Company initiates each season with an archetypal garment of the modern wardrobe; Looking at the historical and cultural connotations of each piece. This season was no different! Beginning with a t-shirt, this collection comprises an exploration of the universally beloved garment with an emphasis on cotton and clothing that is both comfortable and can be worn in nearly any circumstance.

I want consumers to discover alongside me and join into the process”

The history of the graphic t-shirt was also a point of reference, underlining the importance of the garment that helped to galvanize many political movements. There was a sense of urgency created by each graphic tee, providing a physical reminder of and call to action for the mobilization of individuals to bring about powerful changes in policy.
Including graphic t-shirts in the collection is a callback to the larger dialogue that A--Company intends to advance, weaving a post-modern amalgamation of interactive conversations on sustainability, gender, the body and its performance of self, socioeconomics and the purpose of design.

Offering brighter colors than in past collections as a harbinger of — or perhaps an appeal for — hope, the new silhouettes are structured yet relaxed, in keeping with the ease and comfort we are collectively seeking as a society. Fabrics are chosen for their handfeel, taking into consideration how they will feel when worn on the body. Artist Grace Metzlerhand-painted the handbags that walked the show, underlining the sense of community and craftsmanship that surrounds A--Company.

“Every style should be exciting in its approach to construction, challenging to both me and my collaborators, and wearable in a novel way,”

Designed and constructed while listening to an eclectic soundtrack of nostalgic and contemporary alternative artists, including the show’s composer, Some Nerve (Kaya Wilkins), the spring collection carries on many of the core values and business practices A--Company worked within before the pandemic. Having already established strict parameters of a sustainable production model that includes actionable items such as creating limited editions and avoiding excess, producing locally and with small manufacturers, sourcing materials consciously and using the resources they have whenever possible, A--Company refined these practices even further for their Spring Summer 2022 Collection.
