NYFW: LÙCHEN SPRING SUMMER 2022 DEBUT COLLECTION.
The LÙCHEN debut Spring Summer 2022 collection was inspired by the idea of anthropomorphism, centered on the theory of imitation and narrative experience. Based on the varying proportions of the human body, the introduction to LÙCHEN presented guests with an exhibit showcasing 35 looks that explored a wide range of silhouettes. The gallery-like experience of their first showing was led by the philosophical reflection regarding time and its relationship with the human body.
Their ambitious highly-constructed debut collection was made entirely in New York, with a great attention to detail. LÙCHEN seeks to create garments that last a lifetime, from accessories to ready-to-wear. Many nods to the intimacy of clothing as it pertains to the body were included, such as hidden hardware detailing that the wearer can choose whether or not to reveal and shredded silk that replicates the look of feathers, examining the connection between garments and animal skins.
Through the anthropomorphic lens, the use of pixelated images and deconstructed animal motifs are woven throughout the collection, forging the bridge from animal to human. With a considered approach to fabric choice that served as an extension to her inspiration, designer Lu Chen used abstracted prints and photo collaging to visually translate this concept. Many of the fabrics used in the collection have been treated and manipulated, altering the look and feel of the original fabric to create something new.
LÙCHEN was conceived in New York in 2020 amidst a worldwide pandemic, founded on the belief that garments can stimulate one’s imagination. They are constantly exploring and reinforcing the relationship between body, clothes as chosen skin and the outer world. Dedicated to the details, deconstructing both conventional garments and ideas is at the core of LÙCHEN. They aim to use the process of making a garment and the evolution of its materials to record the passage and the dimension of time.
